Loch Dee

General description

Loch Dee is a large loch approximately 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide.  Fishing is from the bank only and the wading is fairly easy over most of the loch.  A peninsula almost divides the loch in half and while the Eastern end is quite shallow with easy wading the Western end is deeper with a mixture of sandy and rocky shores. The loch holds a good head of wild brown trout, not always easy to catch, but a day spent at Loch Dee can be very rewarding.

Species

  • Brown Trout

Parking:

The Loch lies some 5 miles off the A712.

From Newton Stewart take the A712 towards New Galloway and just before Clatteringshaws Dam turn left onto a tarred single track road.  Follow this road for some 3 miles and after going over a narrow hump back bridge turn right onto a forest road at Craigencallie.  Continue on the forest road for a further 2 miles where there is parking and access at each end of the loch and opposite the peninsula.

The first 2 access points involve a half mile walk to the loch with a shorter easier walk from the car park at the Western end of the loch.
